Honesty, sincerity, purity, and integrity come to mind when we listen to the album and reflect thereof on our own state of being and that of the world! Christina Dahl, Simon Toldam, and Peter Bruun have created an exquisite work of ambient Jazz that will hopefully find its way to many listeners around the world. We need it! Surrounded by Simon Toldam and Peter Bruun, she carves out sonic landscapes that echo ECM at its most luminous, where space is allowed to breathe and silence speaks with quiet authority. Her compositions unfold with an inviting grace, their intricacy woven so delicately that refinement never tips into excess. From her saxophone, she draws a tone that both glows and bites, warm as amber, sharp as a clear horizon and that continually captivates with its magical world, guiding the listener on a spellbinding journey they can eagerly dive into without reservation. When the Christina Dahl Trio comes together, a musical space unfolds, in which three strong artistic voices merge into one living expression. The trio consists of three distinctive personalities who collectively create an original and sensuous universe, where composition and improvisation are inextricably interwoven.
With openness and fearless curiosity, the trio ventures into the unknown, embracing both the fragile and the untamed wilderness.
The music breathes within a rich spectrum of sounds — from the simple, lyrical, almost whispering to dense pulsations and layered melodic textures. Within this field of tension, narratives take shape, lived in the present moment and in resonance with the space.
Christina Dahl’s music arises from inner images and moods. Through the trio’s shared organic interpretation, these images become a living musical landscape that reflects the eternal changeability of human beings and of life itself.
The trio has released the album Souls of the Wind on Zack’s Talent.
As an extension of this work, Christina has published a book of her own poems. The book opens new dimensions within the music, allowing sound, word, and image to dissolve into one unified whole. The album and the book were supported by the Danish Arts Foundation, Autor, The Danish Conductors Association, and KODA Kultur. Photos/videos by Maria Sattrup, graphic design by Mark Gry Christiansen.
